Charlie launches Fair Votes Petition to pressure Starmer

Lib Dems Campaigning for Fair Votes by Russell Square

On Sunday 14th April we launched our Petition for Fair Votes in Holborn & St Pancras - working with the Lib Dems for Electoral Reform to run an action day by Russell Square, knocking on doors and handing out leaflets - with the question "Is politics working for you?".  For many people the answer is simple: "No".

Our efforts throughout the campaign are in support of the national Lib Dems petition & the wider lobby for fair votes, but as the seat of Keir Starmer it is a key campaign issue in H&SP.  The Labour party is in favour of changing the voting system to ensure that all votes count - but the leadership of the Labour party, including Starmer, are not listening.

Charlie's goal as the candidate running against Starmer is to show that his voters are also in favour of change.  He said:

"Wherever you go, its sadly easy to find voters who say they are disillusioned with politics - both national and local.  They don't feel listened to, they don't feeel represented, they often don't feel like their vote makes a difference.  They may not bring up voting reform themselves - but they are telling us there's a problem with our politics, and its our job to highlight the solutions.  A lot needs to change - including rules around donations and enforcing the ministerial code, but the most fundamental step is to change how we select our MPs & councillors, to ensure better representation and better accountability.  Every survey completed, every petition signed, and every doorstep conversation will help make the point and put pressure on Keir Starmer."
