Lib Dems Launch Manifesto for a Fair Deal

10 Jun 2024

Camden Lib Dems are proud to share the Liberal Democrat Manifesto for 2024 general election. It is a plan to balance the scales - to create a genuinely fair deal for everyone in this country.

Our manifesto delivers:

  • A fairer housing market including by building 150,000 new social homes per year, strengthening renters rights and abolishing leasehold.
  • Ambitious and pragmatic plans to meet our netzero targets & re-store nature with policies that will simultaneously tackle climate change as well as improving people's health & saving money on bills including:  90% renewable energy by 2030, 3 new national parks, expanding incentives for installing rooftop solar, and free installation of heat pumps and insulation for low income households.
  • Opportunities for future generations including by accepting the offer to allow under 35s to work and travel across the EU, reinstating maintenance grants for disadvantaged students & the increasing the availability of apprenticeships.
  • Commitments to rejoin the European Single market, develop a green industrial strategy, and boost small businesses including by reforming business rates - all of which will help deliver a greener, fairer and more prosperous economy.

Finally, we have been clear that we will fund our promises by seeking to increase tax on the biggest businesses and the billionaires - including by reversing tax cuts for banks and extending the windfall tax on oil and gas, as well as a reform of Capital Gains tax which will only impact a fraction of the top 1% of earners.  We will not increase the main taxes on working people:  income tax, national insurance or VAT.

Charlie Clinton, Parliamentary Candidate for Holborn & St Pancras said:

"Our manifesto delivers what the people of Holborn & St Pancras need.   Targets for social homes & requirements for community-led planning will ensure developments such as those at Euston & Museum street will deliver what the community needs - social houses, green spaces, and the necessary infrastructure to support residents.

Our headline policies on health & social care will make sure you have the care you need, when you need it.

It safeguards the future of our many Universities including through a review of funding & increased support for University research.

Reforming business rates will protect our high streets including our incredible range of pubs, bars, restaurants and venues.

This is also a manifesto for young people - making it more affordable to live study, and work in our constituency or otherwise enabling them to once again study & work in Europe.

Finally, our promises to reform politics by changing the voting system & pushing more power to local councils will increase the accountability of local & national politicians, ensuring that the residents in Holborn & St Pancras can no longer be ignored just because it's seen as a safe Labour seat."

Scott Emery, Parliamentary Candidate for Hampstead and Highgate said:

"Our new manifesto is a bold vision for a fairer, greener, and more prosperous Hampstead and Highgate.

It reflects our commitment to delivering real change with practical solutions that prioritise people and the planet.

I'm particularly proud of our campaign to plant 60 million trees a year. In our city, we desperately need street trees to combat climate change and mitigate the harsh environment it will create.

We are also the only party seriously addressing social care, an issue compounding in severity each year due to inaction.

I'm proud to stand on this manifesto. Let's embrace this opportunity to create a more open, liberal, and inclusive society for everyone."
