At the most recent full council meeting, the Camden Liberal Democrat group played a pivotal role in shaping the discussion, challenging Labour on two poor government decisions that are impacting our communities in Camden.

The cut to winter fuel payments will undoubtedly harm pensioners, especially the 400 vulnerable pensioners in the borough who are entitled to pension credit but do not claim it. Camden has failed to reach these people, letting down some of the most vulnerable members of our community.

The Liberal Democrats group also challenged Labour on the two child benefit cap, a major driver of child poverty, and asked about the impact it is having in Camden. Scrapping this cap would lift 250,000 children out of poverty, yet the Labour Party refuses to abolish it.

While the government calls these cost cutting measures, the reality is that these costs will be picked up by the NHS and council services. The government is simply making the situation work.

We call on Sir Keir Starmer to think again.
