Camden Labour Must Fix Housing Repairs Failures

Camden Council’s housing repairs service has come under fire from the Local Government Ombudsman, who condemned it as “rude and confrontational”, according to the Camden New Journal. An investigation revealed that a tenant was left without heating and hot water for 18 months, with the council repeatedly ignoring complaints. The Ombudsman’s report exposed a shocking disregard for residents’ welfare, calling the council's behaviour “dismissive and disrespectful.”

Responding to the findings, Camden Liberal Democrat leader Cllr Tom Simon said: “For too long, Camden Labour has allowed a culture of hostility toward residents seeking basic repairs. This report confirms what tenants have been telling us for years — Labour-run Camden treats residents like an inconvenience.”

The Liberal Democrats are demanding urgent action. Labour must implement the Ombudsman’s recommendations without delay, including improved staff training and better communication procedures. Camden residents should not have to battle a hostile council just to get essential repairs done.

The council's failure is a clear sign that Camden Labour has lost touch with the people it’s supposed to serve. The Liberal Democrats will continue to hold them to account and push for a responsive, respectful housing service that treats residents with the dignity they deserve.
