£2.5 million of funding secured for new playgrounds in Camden1.32.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 15th Apr 2008
Lib Dem-led Camden council has secured a major new grant to boost play facilities across the borough. Dozens of new play areas and a new adventure playground will be built for children and young people. A cash grant of £2.5 million was announced recently. Camden will join the first year of the government's play investment programme. This means that Camden will receive £2.5 million to create 28 new or improved play areas across the borough. This will include a brand new supervised adventure playground at Kilburn Grange Park. Local Kilburn councillor Janet Grauberg is delighted with the news. "The new playground at Kilburn Grange will make a big difference to kids in our area", she said. "This is great news for the whole borough, particularly for kids who live near to me who will really benefit from the activities on offer at the new playground." The aim is to improve opportunities for young people, particularly eight to 13 year olds where they currently lack places to go and things to do. In order to ensure that the funding delivers what is needed, Camden will be working closely with children, young people and local communities to develop the project.
