Popular local campaigner Nancy Jirira selected in Fortune Green

Nancy is working closely with Councillor Flick Rea in Fortune Green

Local Lib Dems have chosen Nancy Jirira as their candidate to continue the work done by Jane Schopflin and your Lib Dem Spotlight Councillors. Local resident Nancy knows Fortune Green really well. She has lived in West Hampstead since 1974. She has also worked and raised her 17 year old daughter here.

Nancy says: "I am honoured be asked to continue in the tradition of the Lib Dem Spotlight team in Fortune Green, and to have the chance to follow in the footsteps of Jane, Flick and Russell in serving the community to the best of my ability."

Nancy trained as a nurse, worked in A&E at the Royal Free, then became a district nurse and later a health visitor in Brent. She joined the Camden Community Health Council in 1993, where she first met Jane Schopflin. "I learned a lot from her about the importance of local politics and how you could help change the lives of people in the community," she remembers.

In 1999 she started working as a health visitor in the area based at Solent Road health centre. She now works in a more senior position in the NHS.

Long-standing Fortune Green Councillor Flick Rea has welcomed Nancy. "Nancy has an impressive record and I am delighted she wants to join the team," said Flick. "Lots of people already know her through her work and activities - and she is dedicated to making a difference locally."

The by-election will take place on 21st February.
