Statement on the Pending Kentish Town By-Election12.00.00pm UTC (GMT +0000) Thu 19th Oct 2006 In May the people of Camden comprehensively rejected the Labour Party. The Liberal Democrats were the principal beneficiaries, but the real winners were the people of Camden. In just five months Liberal Democrats have led the way in seeking to right some of the wrongs that existed: scrapping on-street car clamping, a commitment to save Kentish Town Baths and invest £22.7million, and freezing our share of the council tax at the next tax setting. The decision of Lucy Anderson to resign her seat provides another opportunity for the people of Kentish Town to be heard. In May the Liberal Democrats took two of the three seats and were just 15 votes short of winning the third. We will be laying out our stall to local residents and asking for their trust and their support. For further information about the Lib Dem campaign contact Cllr Philip Thompson on 020 7424 9764. Note to editors: at the time of going to press the Liberal Democrats are selecting a candidate, an announcement is hoped for on Wednesday morning.
