Ed Fordham welcomes Brian Sedgemore from Labour

12.57.02am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 26th Apr 2005

Ed Fordham, Liberal Democrat candidate for Hampstead and Highgate has welcomed former Labour MP to the Liberal Democrats.

Ed said "What Brian Sedgemore has done is to speak for the hundreds and thousands of people whom I have spoken to in Hampstead and Highgate. The many who feel that Tony Blair and the Labour Party have lost their way and betrayed our reputation over the invasion of Iraq have a voice - that voice is the Liberal Democrats.

"During the terrorism debate at the end of the recent parliamentary session Brian Sedgemore made a power speech which made a big impression on me - he said what many of us felt and he ended with the words "I can describe all that only as new Labour's descent into hell, which is not a place where I want to be"

"Brian Sedgemore is welcome in the Liberal Democrats - he will join thousands of former Labour supporters who are switching their support direct from Labour and Tony Blair to the Liberal Democrats."
